The barristers at 8 New Square are supported by a team of 8 clerks and practice managers who are responible for the administration of our practice. They are "polite, approchable, helpful and very accomodating... (Chambers and Partners 2009)" and all members of the clerking team are knowledgeable about the nature of work undertaken in chambers. The clerks are able to give details of fee levels for all members of chambers and have considerable experience of providing costs schedules.

Chambers are open from 8.30am to 7.00pm Mondays to Fridays. It is always possible to contact one of the clerks outside of normal working hours by mobile phone 07887 763993.

John Call has been our senior clerk for over 30 years. He has considerable knowledge of practice within our core fields of intellectual property and media and entertainment. John has overall responsibility for all members' practices and is equally well able to advise clients on the skills of QCs and junior barristers. He has been a member of the pupillage committee since its inception and maintains our web site on a regular basis. He is a member of the Legal Practice Managers Association (LPMA). John's interests include flying, cycling, ten pin bowling, gardening and watching Arsenal.

John is assisted by Tony Liddon, the deputy senior clerk, who has also been with chambers over 30 years. Tony has a detailed understanding of the nature of our practice and knowledge of Court procedures. Tony usually carries the chambers mobile and is available to assist clients with urgent out of hours business and enquiries. Tony's interests include travelling and socialising.

Nick Wise is a practice manager within chambers having joined from Devereux Chambers in 1999. Nick handles all areas of practice management, including accepting work and advising on suitability of Counsel. Nick enjoys organising the social activities of chambers including cricket matches and informal drinks. Nick's previous experience has included working in Chancery Chambers and a Common law set specialising in employment and commercial law. Nick's interests are golf and history.

Martin Williams joined chambers as a practice manager in January 1999. Martin was previously a clerk at 3-4 South Square, the specialist insolvency set. Martin manages the practices of half the members of chambers, although as with all our support team he is well informed of the practices of all the barristers. Martin has good IT skills and has excellent links with the various courts. Martin’s interests are his family and, (in direct opposition to the senior clerk) watching Tottenham.

Our main clerks are supported by our junior clerks Ben Newham, Paul Worrall and Sean Manley

Ben Newham assists the main clerks in general clerking duties, he is also responsible for IT administration in chambers. He graduated from the University of Wales, Aberystwyth with a BA in Geography in June 2006. Ben joined chambers again in 2006 after working here in his gap year. Ben's interests include music, motoring, IT and travel.

Paul joined chambers in 2008, after assisting with the shut down of the Joint European Torus Project in Culham. Having graduated from Keele University in 2007 with an LL.B in Law and Criminology, Paul is pursuing a legal career path whilst working full time in Chambers. Recently he has successfully completed his Legal Practice Course achieving a high commendation. Paul provides excellent support to members of chambers and our clients, particularly when asked to research case authorities. Paul supports the Practice Managers with general clerking responsibilities and he is also responsible for maintaining and updating Chambers library.

Paul’s interests include scuba diving, cycling and the gym.

Sean is a Canadian National and has been with 8 New Square since 2009, he has quickly become part of the team and works diligently alongside Paul, by way of providing support to the practice managers. Sean graduated from the University of Southampton with an LLB and is currently undertaking an LLM with the College of Law. Sean takes a specific interest in intellectual property and is currently writing a dissertation on Trade Marks. Sean is efficient in the support he provides to the practice managers with all general clerking responsibilities required of him.

Sean is part of the ever increasing 8 New Square cycling team and also enjoys skiing.

Business Development Manager: Furhana Mallick

Furhana joined chambers early this year having previously been Chambers Director in a common law set. This experience coupled with over 11 years marketing and business development experience from within the communications industry has given Furhana the commercial acumen together with a thorough understanding of Chambers dynamics, practices and procedure.

Furhana maintains and updates the website and deals with all marketing, press and directory related enquiries as well as general chambers administration.

Furhana graduated at a London Business School with a MBA in 2008 and is a member of the Chartered Management Institute and the Legal Practice Managers Association.
